International Labour Rights

Law is not static, international law is being created now and it is ever evolving. While, in general, international law’s ambit is states, governments and multinational institutions, this view is being challenged today especially in the fields of Human Rights. I agree with the view that by extension international law can touch on our lives as individuals. I think some areas more than others affect our daily lives, and international labor law and employment rights is one of those areas. Furthermore, I think international labor law is one of the most controversial areas due to the different players and stakeholders in that field, and the conflicting powers affecting it. It is for those same reasons that I believe you and I can play a role in creating employment rights and improving them.
 
The main purpose of this blog/research is to study whether we can improve the current laws governing international employment to the best of the individuals’ well-being and how to achieve that goal. To that end we will attempt to explore:
1.  How international law is created with a focus on international labor and employment law
2.  The sources of employment law and the impact of international  labor rights on national laws
3.  International Human Rights and the place of labor rights
4.  Globalization, global trade, industrial relations and labor rights
5.   MNEs and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
6.   International Labor Law today:
a.       ILO and other bodies
b.      Standards, best practices
c.       Cases
d.      Inclusion/exclusion – who is covered by employment laws
e.      Fundamental rights
 
We will also look at the field of employment right from a multidisciplinary perspective and try to review a wide range of literature and to list resources and references; hoping visitors will find this blog useful!
The assumption behind this blog is that we have a role and a duty to improve our world, in order to do so first we need to be informed.
